Both conferences brought together people from across the industry, and the atmosphere clearly reflected that 2026 will be a challenging but also important year for many in the fleet.

Quotas, Resources, and Tighter Conditions

On stage, much was discussed about the resource situation in the Northeast Atlantic, with particular focus on developments in the mackerel stock. At the same time, the market picture around international competition and margin pressure was highlighted as an important part of the backdrop for the coming season.

According to CEO Tomas Roaldsnes, Catchwise's role in this is clear: We want to help fishermen get better returns on the quota they actually have, by making it easier to find the right fish more efficiently.

Over 500 in the Room – Technology in Focus

At Ombordfryst, there were over 500 participants in the room, with many also following digitally. Here, Catchwise CEO Tomas Roaldsnes gave a presentation on how new technology helps skippers and mates make better decisions.

"Catchwise is designed to support decisions in the wheelhouse. We provide a better foundation for making the right decisions about where to fish," says Roaldsnes.

He demonstrated how Catchwise helps fishermen to:

  • find fish more efficiently
  • reduce search time
  • make better decisions based on historical data and patterns

At the same time, he took the opportunity to make a more general call to the entire industry: It's not just about Catchwise or one particular tool – but about all parts of the industry daring to adopt new technology where it provides real value, to ensure that Norwegian fisheries continue to compete internationally and maintain competitiveness in the years to come.

When Every Trip Counts

Much of what was repeated throughout the days was that the industry is entering a time of more unpredictability, and therefore it becomes even more important to use data smartly to work more efficiently and get the most out of every trip.

"When things become more uncertain going forward, it becomes even more important to use data correctly so that fishing can be better planned, work becomes more efficient, and each trip yields better returns," says Tomas Roaldsnes.
