The background map in Catchwise has received a lot of praise from our users. We have therefore taken it one step further and built our own bathymetric map from the ground up. The new bathymetric map is more detailed, has fishing banks marked on the map, and features blue colors indicating depth.
What we've done:
· Added a new, more detailed bathymetric map
· Blue colors indicating depth
· Can be activated in the map layer menu
Several users have mentioned that it's difficult to know exactly where you're looking in the wind map or how the current flows along the edges. We have therefore improved the map layers for wind, waves, and ocean currents with depth contours to make them more intuitive and precise.
What's new:
· Depth contours are now displayed directly in the weather maps
· Easier to see conditions at different depths
The Fishing Activity map layer now shows which vessels and how long they have been in different areas, up to 30 days back in time.
We've added:
· Indicator showing how long vessels have been fishing in an area
· Zoom in to see the trawl tracks of fishing activity
· Can be played back to see how the fishing was day by day
We've made it easier to learn from previous seasons.
These improvements are in place:
· You can now see catches as trawl tracks
· View longer periods/seasons
· Better day-by-day view
· Moved to the live map
We've made it possible to view catches day by day. Activate the function at the bottom center of the screen with the "View day by day" button
We've received feedback from skippers that it was difficult to distinguish temperature intervals, especially at the edges and to see smaller temperature differences such as 0.5 degrees. Therefore, we've now made it easier to distinguish the smaller temperature layers on the map.
Now you can always see the depth at your mouse pointer when using Catchwise on PC or Mac.
